The Bilbao Bellas Artes Museum is undergoing one of the most significant architectural and cultural transformations in its history. The project involves the creation of new spaces and the refurbishment of the 1970 building, as part of a programme aimed at adapting the complex to the current needs of a major cultural venue.
Koneba has installed two Kortex H horizontal textile fire curtains, a passive fire protection solution designed to compartmentalise spaces and limit the spread of fire and thermal radiation. This type of system is particularly suitable for large open spaces, inter-storey voids, atria or areas where the aim is to maintain architectural aesthetics and functionality. The installed solutions have an EW 120 classification and are manufactured in accordance with the requirements of the ISO 21524 standard, which specifically covers horizontal fire curtains.
The project also incorporates a 28.8-metre Kortex DA Auto smoke curtain measuring 28.8 metres for Smoke and Heat Exhaust Ventilation Systems (SHEVS) in the museum’s new upper gallery, certified in accordance with standard EN 12101-1. This curtain remains concealed under normal conditions, preserving the aesthetics of the space, and descends automatically in the event of an emergency. This system helps to maintain a smoke-free zone that facilitates the safe evacuation of visitors and staff, whilst ensuring adequate visibility and temperature conditions during an emergency.
With a commitment to innovation and tailoring its solutions to each project, Koneba develops and manufactures bespoke fire protection solutions capable of meeting the technical and architectural requirements of unique buildings. Its aim is to integrate safety and functionality without compromising the design of the spaces.
